Join Us for Easter at Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish

March 26, 2024

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish,

Celebrating Easter is like watching the sunrise in the most beautiful place ever visited. All along our journey through Lent our eyes have been tuned for directional arrows in the Scriptures pointing our steps toward God, who summons us unceasingly.

At Easter we open our hearts fully as the Son rises gloriously and his rays fill us with joy. Together with the community of faith, we renew our baptismal vows. Like a long-married couple renewing their marriage vows, we baptized Christians renew our commitment to Jesus Christ and the Church. We welcome sprinkles of blessed baptismal water as a symbol of our bond in faith. It is a joyous response to God’s invitation to return with ready hearts. The resurrection is celebrated with our jubilant renewal of faith as the Gloria and Alleluia are sung and trumpets and bells resound. Our sanctuaries and homes are filled with fragrant flowers and our tables hold choice foods to share with those we love. The Son is alive and with us always! Alleluia!

We invite you to join us in person or online for as we journey together through this most holy week of the year.

Wishing all near and far a most blessed and holy Easter!

Good Friday Evening

March 29,2024

7:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Seton

Tenebrae – Service of Darkness – is an ancient tradition of the Church that recalls the last days of Jesus Christ through scripture readings and hymns. The church is darkened as candle light is extinguished after each reading. The community makes loud noises recalling the thunder and tumult at the reading that describes the death of Christ. The church remains quiet at the end of the service for prayer. Veneration of the Cross follows the service.

Bring Your Rice Bowls Back to Church

All households who have filled their Rice Bowls during Lent are asked to convert your change into cash or a check made out to Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish. Drop your envelope labeled "CRS Rice Bowl" into our collection boxes in the entrance ways of our church buildings. Thank you!

Thank you to all who so generously contributed to our annual Easter Basket and Gift Card Collection to benefit local Rocky Hill families in collaboration with Rocky Hill Human Services. Together we donated 30 beautiful Easter Food Baskets and $3350.00 in grocery store gift cards!

Keep St. Ann’s in Saintard, Haiti in Your Prayers

Father George has kept us up to date about conditions at St Ann’s in Saintard, Haiti. We have prayed for this community at every Sunday Mass for many years and have donated financial support for St. Ann’s through our contributions. In the past, small teams of parishioners visited our sister parish in Saintard before it became too dangerous.

St. Ann’s has shared handmade art with our parish, found at the Saint Elizabeth Seton campus. There is a Haiti wall in the worship space near the Reconciliation Room, a world globe in the foyer, a large metal art piece of Noah’s animals on a wall in classroom D as well as a large nativity set that we place in the foyer at Christmas. All are reminders of our connection and commitment to our sister community of St. Ann’s. Now more than ever, the parish community we have pledged to support needs our prayers.

Out of the depths we cry to You, O God for our Haitian sisters and brothers. We thank you for upholding them in their suffering. Give them continuing strength and comfort. Amen.

Archbishop's Annual Appeal

Thank you to the parish families who have made a gift or pledge commitment to the 2024 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. If you have not yet had the opportunity, please consider prayerfully supporting the many “Good Works” of the Archdiocese. Every gift will be gratefully received and sincerely appreciated. All funds contributed to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal are used exclusively for the purposes outlined in the Appeal literature, which can be found here. No Appeal funds are ever used for legal fees or settlements.
